Meeting with Mr Paul Uppal MP
17 Oct 2011
On Friday 7th October 2011 members of the Fed were pleased to welcome Mr Paul Uppal MP, as a member of the governing party, to a meeting to discuss various issues. Among matters discussed were:
- The need to build new Council homes
- The importance of the Decent Homes programme being completed
- Concerns over proposed benefit changes – in particular plans to reduce housing benefit for tenants who are under pensionable age that under occupy properties and plans to stop direct payments of rent from benefits to landlords. We feel these changes could jeopardise security of tenure for some vulnerable tenants
- The need to promote new businesses and support existing businesses in the area to promote economic growth
