Update on the 'bedroom tax'

13 Jan 2014

The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has made an announcement on the 'bedroom tax'.

Tenants are to be recompensed if they 'have been continuously entitled to housing benefit since at least 1st January 1996 and have occupied the same dwelling since that date, save for any period where a fire, flood, explosion or natural catastrophe rendered the property uninhabitable.'

The DWP has now pledged to close this loophole.
