Rents and service charges

12 Jan 2015

Officers from Wolverhampton Homes came to our meeting on 5th Jan 2015 to talk about proposed rent and service charge increases for 2015/16.  Whilst the preferred rent rise option seemed to be 3.1% to allow for council house new build members were concerned that this was an avareage increase and meant that some tenants would pay more and some less.  The maximum increase being as high as 7.5% to bring some tenants up to the average rent level for their property type. This could affect up to £1,000 tenants.  On this basis tenants did not feel able to give an opinion.  Members are concerned that tenants are struggling to make ends meet and further increases in rents, services and general living costs would make life more difficult.
