Disability benefits

Whilst the Govt has done a u turn on proposed cuts to Personal Independence Payments (PIP) under the Welfare Reform and Work Bill the Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) for certain claimants will be reduced from £103 per week to £73 per week from April 2017.  The changes were challenged in the Lords but ministers argue the changes will encourage people to get into work.

The cuts will apply to new ESA claimants in the work related activity group.  Basically it will affect people deemed unable to work at present but capable of making some effort to find employment including attending work focused interviews and taking part in training.  We are concerned that this will cause considerable hardship for some people.
