Affordable Homes

It is understood that some 82,000 social rented homes will be converted to 'affordable rent', as part of the Affordable Homes programme. 'Affordable rent' moves away from social sector housing as we know it.  Rents will be set at 80% of market rents.  In high rent areas this will be out of reach of low income tenants.  Whilst housing benefit will be available we do not know what affect the introduction of Universal Credit will have.  Also the 'Affordable Homes' programme is linked to the introduction of insecure fixed term tenancies.

As a Federation we are concerned as to tenants having access to real affordable secure homes.
